Starting from considerations around urban security, this work looks at the strategic studies literature to discover relationships between contemporary mass surveillance-and-control systems and military knowledge. In the so called State of exception, borders between civil and military responses to different disorders seem to fade. Emergency operations - both in wars as in peace time - involve strategies that have the tendency to assimilate cities to battlefields.
